What if you order something bigger than the parcel safe?

Can Parcel Safe sign for you on the 'handheld device' as well?

HDN in my place just put parcels in back garden - and it doesn't matter if it is pouring with rain!

I have complained to Amazon a few times about them using HDN, but to no result, obviously. They are not bothered really.

A couple of carriers are now starting to implement services that are giving an option for this, though not ideal.

DPD have an option on their missed delivery cards that allows the consumer to specify a secure place the parcel can be left without a signature, but you do have to take responsibility for the delivery if it goes missing. I believe you can also set up this service for yourself permanently by contacting them, for instance if you receive a lot of deliveries via this carrier.

Royal Mail have also just launched a service called SafePlace which allows you to specify a safe place that the parcel can be left, without a signature. They do offer insurance for this currently set at a maximum of £41, but above this, again you are responsible. I think you can also request this service permanently, much the same as DPD.

The key to these services is that you do need a secure place in which to have the parcel left, so I would say a system such as Parcel Safe, Hippo Box or ParcelPal would be advisable.

    Hope that helps, Simon.

    Of course you would...

Ours is thrown over the back gate. Or worse- on bin days if the bin is empty he puts it in there... Even for items that should be signed for. Maybe some are stricter than others on the rules and regs?

Our stuff is usually left with a neighbour. The only problem is working out which one.

Some carriers seem uncapable of doing this, however, and I have had parcels taken back to the depot and an invitation to collect. It really gets my goat when I have paid for delivery, especially when, as happened on one occasion, the nearest depot was a four hour round trip by car.

Now, if it goes back to a depot more than half an hour away, I leave it there and it goes back to the sender. It's usually cheaper overall to get the goods locally.

the companies set out their contract with the courier
so if they dont allow leaving with a neighbour then they will take it back

It's a bit annoying if you have an assisted pull-out and it's bin day though
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

yes but you see how one size doesn't fit all
people complain when packets are back at the depot and complain when the driver uses their judgement
