New bathroom

I had a friend refit my bathroom. I must say that he does a good job. I just got his bill and I think it is a bit steep. I agreed to pay by the hour and cash (yes, I probably should not have done this). The total came to £2320 and that’s just for the labour. I have to pay all the materials separately. It is a small bathroom (2m x 2.13). We are just outside the London are. I took off the tiles and the showerscreen, and will do all the necessary painting. This was his work:

- remove existing bath, basin, radiator and linoleum from the floor
- install new bath and powershower, sink pipework for shower into the wall
- build small storage cabinet between bath and wall
- rake off Artex, seal and plaster ceiling to smooth finish
- install new light pull switch, drill and install 3 halogen lights
- install new ½ pedestal basin
- install new heated towel rail (which I had him replace by a normal small radiator before it was completely installed as it was too big)
- tile and grout walls around bath
- repair small part of the floor
- lay plywood, tile and grout floor with mosaic tiles
- install tongue and groove on part of the walls (+/- 3m) and along bath (as bath panel)
- install new window sill
- install thermostatic valve on radiator in bedroom

Thank you in advance for your advice

Good afternoon: My OH is a plumber/CORGI...he would charge a similar amount for labour (as the job has been described by you) in Greater London/Surrey/Kent. No loo?

No, no loo. This guy is not a plumber/corgi registered and I pay cash. Would you still come to the same price for labour?

Good afternoon: OH still charges the same for cash (not VAT registered and it all goes into the bank) Many 'plumbers' don't have formal qualifications as plumbing is not a regulated profession...anyone can trade as a plumber (hence the cowboy reputation) that being said if the job meets Building and Water regulation requirements and you are satisfied with his work, whether he is 'qualified' or not doesn't make any difference to the price charged (just don't have him do any gas work, as you have said he is not CORGI;) )
