National Car Rip-off Scam

Options
Hi,

I booked a national car rental, via moneysupermarket. I had a valid registration number etc. I was told this would be £169.99. When i turned up to collect my car, they said it would be £310, as i was a UK customer, and not American. They said, i had booked through national.com, and not co.uk. Even though i entered my correct details, and was referred by a link, in which they reciprocate commission through. The link has changed now. But i think this is clearly wrong. The essential of the cost difference, was that they claim US citizens insure the full amount of their car by their credit card. But it doesnt say anywhere on the .com website, i have to be American.

Is there anything i can do to get redress for this?

Kind regards,

Arfhurdaly

Did you print off the booking when you made it or the confirmation email?

If so, you can show what you contractually entered into.

I think what they're saying sounds right. When you book a car in the States they don't include all the insurance you need (loss damage waiver, etc) in the standard quote as credit cards issued in the US include this cover for free. Booking in the UK you get an all inclusive rate. So I can see that, if you booked a car in the UK from their US site, that they'd give you the quote on the basis that you'd be providing your own insurance.

I would try complaining to moneysupermarket that as you booked from the UK (UK credit card - UK address) they should have warned you that you were booking a deal more suitable for US citizens.
