Are you serious? The poster owed £1000 and knew he owed £1000. He shouldn't have to be chased for him to repay his debt. If I owe someone money, I pay without being asked. Honest people do.
Yes ofcourse I am serious.
I'm afraid you sound very detached from the real world. There are millions of people who struggle with finances day in and day out. The OP has mentioned not being able to work due to health problems, it is nothing to do with being honest, I am sure that when the debt was taken out they had every intention of paying the funds back, but circumstances perhaps have changed.
I just hope that you never find yourself in a position where you can't make payments due to circumstances beyond your control.
Also, you say that if you owe someone money, your pay without being asked. This is very honourable but on the other hand if I was owed money and the required payments were not made then I would contact the debtor and discuss what the problem may be rather than waiting 5 years.0 -
You're dead wrong. I was once poor and deep in debt through no fault of my own: my then wife was entrusted by me to make our council house rent payments and I found out after several months that she had spent the money on other (unnecessary) things. I didn't just keep my head down, whinge and ignore the debt; I got an extra job and saved every penny I could to pay off the arrears.I'm afraid you sound very detached from the real world.
Whilst I'm grateful for your concern, I've made sure that will never be the case. Apart from, of course, divorcing said former wife, I've always lived within my means and saved up as much as possible for my future security.I just hope that you never find yourself in a position where you can't make payments due to circumstances beyond your control.0 -

I am sorry to hear of your experience. I did say that you "sounded" detached from the real world, not that you actually were detached. And your reply indeed indicates that this is not the case.
I really don't want to comment on your personal circumstances, but would just add that life has a habit of taking unexpected turns, and many people with debts are not in that position because they are dishonest or dishonourable, but simply that events have conspired against them. They are not bad people for that and it is just my opinion that they deserve some sympathy rather than critisizm.0 -
It is still barclaycard that are chasing but they say they will pass debt over if I do not make arrangements to pay this week! wanted to know my legal position and any advice that might help.0

Don't worry about the people on here Chrismac911, I have been surprised by the number of posters that seem to be pro-banks rather than pro-customers. Often when people ask for debt advice several posters come back with the clever response, "you borrowed it, you should pay it back". Well I have said previously, I hope life doesn't take a turn for the worse for them.
May I advise that you take all your paperwork and communications to the Citizen's Advice Bureau. They are very helpful and have access to legal expertise if necessary. It is difficult to give an accurate assessment on here, and in another thread where I tried to share my experience I got shot down. Good Luck.0
