4 months later they still haven't sent me the item i ordered. where do i stand?

hopefully this is the best place to post this.
Any help is much appriciated!!

I have placed an order with a site in november for a christmas present for my boyfriend.
I was told it was on back order and it was taken off the site. call a few more times no one can give me a date of when it will be back in.
then 3 months later i see the exact same item is back on the site but for a higher price.
So i call them up and they tell me my item is out of stock, so i ask why they have advertised it as
being in stock. they tell me its a different item. after much explaining i tell them its the same item just more expensive. finally a supervisor agrees to send it to me for the lower price.
they take my money.
a few days later the wrong item arrives. totally different colour, and bad quality!
so i call them up they say i can send it back and exchange, so i write a letter with photos explaining what happened and what i want.
call back up a week later as ive heard nothing and am told the item is on back order. explain the situation again!!! she tells me that i will get the item in the next 10-14 days. I hear nothing once again. so call back up.
explained the situation am told theres nothing they can do as its on back order. ask to speak to a supervisor.
Get put through to someone who i dont think is a supervisor as im told they are on another call.
he tells me its on back order and he cant tell me if the item i was sent was the item i ordered.
I explained they sent me grey instead of navy and grey isnt even on the web site to be ordered.
he said it looks like the navy sold out while i was returning the item (2 days!!)
i asked for a date of when they will come back in and he is going to call me back as the person who knows is in a meeting.

I'm pretty fed up with this now, they have my money and wont send the item. It's supposed to be for a birthday present in april! but i dont think it's even going to get here for then!! i've been waiting FOUR months now!
they are happy to cancel the order for me (and keep saying this) but i just want the item!!


Does anyone know who I can contact about this or "threaten" to contact to get them to hurry up?!!

    they are happy to cancel the order for me (and keep saying this)

    They haven't got it then and aren't going to have it anytime this decade.

    Get your money back, get it from somewhere else
    It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
