Odd message & button on my Focus!

Hi all

I've just bought a Ford Focus Ghia. There's a button on the driver's door that looks like something to do with the alarm. When the ignition is off & I press the button a message appears on the menu "Interior scan deactivated". There's nothing about this in the manual.
I can see that it means the interior alarm is switched off but don't know why you would want to do this & don't know how to switch it back on.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If you lock the car but leave something living - cat, dog, child, aged aunt - in the car

As above it's for leaving things in the car whilst it's parked. It's deactivated when you next start the car I think.
