Grrrrrr, time-waster sellers

Ok, this is a rant and a question

Has this happend to anyone else?

I bought an item of a seller with zero feedback (yes I know, but I really wanted it)

It sold for the starting price (maybe I had odd/unique tastes...)

Can I get hold of the seller? Of course not!!!!
Coz it sold for less than he / she wanted.

This is the second time this has happend in the last month (the other seller had 'good' feedback, no guarantee)

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS? Why not just list with a higher starting price or a reserve?

Ok, rant over. :o

But seriously can't ebay trace such timewasters via their paypal address (if they have another ebay acc, which I suspect is the case), then have a indicator on the feedback stats so buyers can see linked acc's & feedback?

Does this sound workable, or am I still ranting?

    Hi
I fully understand your rant and am sorry that you have been let down BUT
    The indicator is the feedback.
    Did you leave negative feedback?
If not then you only have yourself to blame as others will have nothing to jusge this seller by
What do you call good feedback?
    100%
4.7 DSR or above across the board?
Is the seller involved in selling eBooks to gain a quick reputation in order to rip people off?
Feel free to check out my feedback *vames* and tell me if you think I am a good seller.

Are you investigating your potential trading partners thoroughly enough?
If feedback is not 100% have you read the negatives to see if they are reasonable.
I got a Neutral because my listing stated I do not take cheques and the buyer sent me a cheque and completely refused to use any of the other payment methods offered. Is that reasonable?

Please check out your trading partners very thoroughly before bidding.

Yes I have been ripped off on eBay but far less so than in the high street.

Anyone watched Rogue Traders or Watchdog lately?

    This really needs some perspective.
You can't investigate a plumber from the yellow pages as thoroughly as you can an eBay trader.

You have a massive amount of protection from eBay so make use of it.

I know this sounds very unsympathetic and it is the bad sellers that give the rest (Massive Majority) of us good sellers a bad name. eBay are going a long way towards improving this though.

Am genuinely sorry you have been treated so badly
  • Hi Smiler
Thanks for the response. You are right about feedback I have never risked buying from a seller with zero f/back before. This kinda proves why (proves your point too). That said we arrive back at the 'how reliable is feedback' question. The other seller that did this had lots of +f/back. It is a gamble as we never really know anything about the seller (esp 'new' ones) until your item arrives.

I have to put it down to experience, maybe there would be a load of hassle getting in touch with them, trying to arrange collection, thing being broken, all sorts of chaos....

I wander if this kind of thing is on the increase, I've been on ebay for a few yrs so to have it happen twice in a month is wierd

Also I've noticed that alot of the flat pack furniture listed tends to be from 'new' sellers. I guess they just cut their losses if the item doesn't get a good price and relist using another acc.

In this case I will leave neg f/back, but the seller has nothing to lose as they can ignore it and just open another acc using another email addy.

I'm not going look at your ebay 'profile' as I'm sure you're a very good ebayer  and a nice person too.

Sellers who do this really get me peeved. If they want a higher price for it then they should increase the starting price.

I've had the same problem this week from two sellers who obviously didn't get the amount they wanted. I'm fed up with emailing them. One even had the gall to state item to be collected within three days. Chance would be a fine thing!

You are right about feedback I have never risked buying from a seller with zero f/back before. This kinda proves why (proves your point too).

The other point to remember is that every honest seller on e-bay started with zero feedback.

Thus speaks the fully intending to be honest newbie e-bay seller :D (I'm clearing out stuff I don't want so ultimately just want to be rid of it...)

Everyone has to start somewhere so every eBayer will have had 0 fedback at sometime or another.

Most eBayers will make a couple of purchases before they start selling others will sell stuff that they don't care about how much they will get for the items to start with.

Only when you have built your feedback up should you risk the crown jewels on auction :-)

it was prob on cheap because we have just had a free listing weekend for up 99p start prices...i have been trying to sell something for last 2 months,i have listed it 3 times with a start of £28(my min)..but when i listed it at 99p i took a chance..strangely enough it went at £31..!!
TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....
  • I've sold stuff that I thought would sell for more, but I always kept to my side of the deal and sent the item (at a loss). I forgot about the free listing last weekend so that might account for the increase in '0 feedback' sales
The funny thing is the seller registered their real tel nuumber with ebay so I req their contact details and left a message for him. So he really doesn't have an excuse. But I wont hold my breath........
