Looking for a internal/external HD-DVD Burner/Writer.

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any help or info given.
I've been searching for a internal/external HD-DVD Burner/Writer but without much luck and was wondering if anyone could please point me in the right direction.
Many thanks again.
Pete.

Bearing in mind it's lost the studios' support, is it a good idea to go for a HDDVD burner over a Bluray burner?

Given how ludicrously hard it is to find the drives and the blanks, and how easy it is to find their bluray counterparts, and given that this situation will only get worse (and if you can find them, the chances are the blanks will get more expensive while BD-R discs will get cheaper) it seems a little silly to adopt a failed technology.

I think there's a reason you've found them so hard to find.

That's fair comment although I'm not sure the blank media will be more expensive.

  • I would have to agree.
HD-DVD now is a dead format. Toshiba announced the other week that they are discountinuing it.
The price of blank media could go either way. If there is panic buying of the people that already have the drives and want to stock up before they can't get any more.
If nobody buys them then retailers will cut the prices to shift them.
    I would go bluray!

The media is cheaper to make than blu ray and so at the moment is cheaper but it will get more and more expensive as it gets scarcer as there's little incentive to make the discs now if even Toshiba are closing their factories down.

Is there a specific reason why you want HD DVD over Blu Ray?

Yes I've just bought the Toshiba HD-EP30 from Play.com for £49.99 and was looking at getting a HD-DVD Camcorder so then I can burn my recordings and watch them on the player.

Well I'm finding it nigh on impossible even finding one HD DVD writer and the discs seem pretty scarce and things are only going to get even worse. Do you really want to get a HD DVD camcorder, I'm all for buying a HD DVD player (I'd see it as a replacement to my DVD player and a DVD upscaler) but even I think getting something that uses HD DVD as a recording medium pretty foolhardy. Wouldn't it be better getting a hard disc camcorder at least then you aren't tied to a particular format and could end up burning to either HD DVD or BR or anything else through your PC or a recorder?
