panicking hopeful student

Hi

I was just wondering if anybody could help me i had a student grant for everything (maintenence and tuition) in 1995 for a degree course that i didnt complete, i then transferred onto a HND course and didnt complete that either (i was a very immature teenager) but all of this took place within one academic year. Do you think that I could get a student loan for tuition and maintenence now for a degree course? I never took out the student loan when i did my course all those years ago but im getting worried that my past will prevent me from studying again now.

Thank you!

I think the fact that it all happened in one year may go in your favour.

The best advice I can give (someone else will know better, I'm sure) is to phone your local council and ask for the student services deptartment.

They are usually very helpful and will be able, I'm sure, to tell you the answer if you have the details available. If they can't, ask them who you need to contact as they should know that too.

    Good luck!

Your LEA can give you an idea but they can't give you a definitive answer unless you apply and they get confirmation of the facts from the places you studied.

However, if you just transferred courses within an academic year and meet all the other usual criteria you should be fine for support for a new course (also assuming no new rules have come in this year!)
  • As it's over 10 years ago I think you'll be ok. I did something similar back in my youth but it was over looked when I went back to study last year.

as long as you didn't start a second year you are usually fine.
