Is a temporary fund holding account possible?

Hi All

My 16 yr daughter has been asked if she would be one of a 6 strong team from her school to go to Africa and participate in a school building project for one of the many poverty striken communities.

Her participation requires sponsorship of £1,500 to fund the trip ( I suspect flight, insurances, basic lodgings etc).

We have a plan of action to approach building suppliers and estate agent businesses as well as the biggies such as Co-Op and M&S etc.

Firstly, I've never done anything like this before so some good links or just sound starting block advice would be appreciated.

Secondly, if we can persuade donations from companies and/or individuals, how should money be received as businesses will want to pay by cheque. Is there a scheme where banks offer satellite temporary accounts that can be specifically named eg "Project Africa 2008".

Thanks in anticipation.

Put yourself in the shoes of M&S, etc. Would you make out a cheque to a person you have never heard of and where you may never see what happens to the money?
I think the school should be giving some support here by making their bank account available for the receipt of the students funds and acting as the accountable body.
Your local library will have reference books listing charitable trusts, some of whom will respond to appeals like this (although most of them don't).
