British Gas final bill

Hi there,

I moved out of my property in January 2006. I rang BG and gave them my final meeting reading and they sent me out a bill which I paid.

In January 2008 I get a debt collection letter from a recovery company stating it was for gas used.

Cutting a long story short they say they sent my final bill out to me (AT A HOUSE i NO LONGER LIVED AT AND THEY KNOW THAT!!!) 5 months later!!

As I don't have my crystal ball working at this time I didn't know this bill was in exsistence and I still very much doubt it is right.

I paid the debt collection people over the phone and told them to note I was disputing it. Spoke to the recovery dept at BG who were no good.

I got the complaints address from them but my argument and disgust is that when I think (quite rightly) I have paid the final bill then 5 months later they send a bill to the wrong address to know it will be sent onto a recovery agency who will trace me (I have no intention of hiding or being dishonest by the way! I have not ever not paid a bill in my life:mad: ) surely this can't be right and what could I do about it?

Do you think I can get a refund from BG for their mix up?

Any advice greatly received

Don't think they can go that far back to recover monies, anyway.
As you have tried to settle with BG, the next point of call is Energywatch. Copies of bills and letters will help. Dates as well.

If you get the law involved i.e. go to court, I think you can go back 6 years, so I can't see why cannot go back to 2006.

I should think you can get a refund, though you may need to name and shame them somehow.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
