Quote for installing power shower

Dear all, I've been quoted around £500 for installation of a power (ie, pumped) shower to go over the bath at the tap end. As the tanks are on the same level there's insufficient pressure for any other kind of shower (unless someone can tell me of another way of doing it!). Is this a reasonable quote for the electrical work and plumbing? I expect there to be some damage to the tiles around the bath but I'd be able to replace those myself.

As I live in a rented house this feels like a lot to spend on a house that isn't mine but I much prefer showers and anyway they're more economical and energy saving than baths.

Many thanks

Liz

  • Hi

Does this include the shower unit itself or are you supplying it?

What make is it if it is included?

I'm really sorry, I feel very embarrassed that I didn't respond to this kind answer. The shower would be supplied by the plumber but any retiling, redecorating etc necessary would be done by us.

I've had another estimate today, this guy said a pump isn't needed as the cold water is directly fed from the mains with sufficient pressure to have an ordinary electrically heated shower over the bath. Fine thought I, easier and surely cheaper. This guy has quoted £875 + vat to supply and fit Mira 8.5kw shower, incl all plumbing and electrics. An additional £45 + vat per metre for any tiling etc. (using our tiles) As if!! Unbeleeeeeeeevable!

Is this really worth it? There's no way I'm paying this at all but I so want a shower.

Thanks, feeling very sad as I had high hopes for this company. What would be a reasonable quote.

thanks very much - yes I saw your message but wasn't quite sure how to separate just the shower from all the other work you're having done. But it's a good comparison, you're having quite a lot done for far less than I've been quoted. I may ring and ask whether this actually is correct as it's so far outside the other 2 quotes I've had. I shall also get another quote too - just in case. How many quotes have you had and are they quite close to each other?

  • The other quote i had was £470 + tiling which they estimated would be about £200 so they work out quite similar.
