Is Non Profit or Charity set up best way to go?

First time on the forum and asking for help on setting up correctly.
We are organizing a fund raising event at a theatre. Everyone is putting their time in for free - we just need to cover the costs of the event and the entire funds are then distributed to 3 kids charities. We will hold an event every 2 years.
So, Not For Profit Organization or a Charity? Which is easier to set up and administer and what documents will we need to produce? As we will only do an event every 2 years, should we keep it dormant in between events or start / close each time?
Any advice gratefully received!

Rather then setting up your own organisation as you are goiong to do it once every 2 years it would be better to work with another organisation.0

Agreed, contact the thre charities, and work on their behalf. DO keep accounts (just a spreadsheet should be fine), and ask them for advice, but there's not really much point in setting up another organisation to do an event every two years.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0
