ok...im assuming by saying this that when your dell system arrives you will be formatting the computer and putting your own copy of xp on or an open source alternative such as linux.

otherwise what you are suggesting ie selling the xp cd and not removing what dell have installed is illegal

No they dont have a COA as they are dell OEM copies. The key is on the COA sticker, that dell put on the side towards back. Hope this helps.

You dont need to enter your key with dell disks, well I never had to anyhows.
    Kind Regards

Is the new machine your personal property or the company's?

rhetorical question - I assume it is yours, as you would not be asking the question about work

nothing wrong with selling the unused XP Home, but if you install an XP Pro Volume Licenced product from work on your personal equipment then the installation is mis-licenced.

apologies if I am making a wrong assumption about the XP Pro (you mention no disc, only certificate), but if this is the case you should not be asking - frankly I'm amazed that somebody in your position is considering this action, (and demonstrating professional negligence and ignorance of the licence conditions) which Microsoft frown on, and are taking more steps to stamp out

don't believe me? - ask Microsoft yourself; they will tell you to buy a retail copy.
  • I'm closing this thread as we cannot be 100% sure of the legalities.

I do happen to know that CD's/keys that come with Dell systems will only install on PC's with Dell motherboards. For now I'm closing the thread though

    Regards
