in Credit cards
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about my problem because I would be so grateful for any advice.
I am desperately trying to transfer a debt of £850 off my boyfriends Lloyds TSB student credit card onto a 0% balance transfer deal, but it's just not working, and it's driving me insane! I've already had £6 in interest charges in the time that I've been trying to get this to work.
We stupidly didn't read the small print of his credit card that you had to make a minimum spend each month for the promotional 0% interest to apply, so didn't realise until the last statement that they are now charging interest on the balance of his card. So I immediately took out a credit card and got a 13 month @ 0% balance transfer deal with Tesco and have been given a limit of £1000.
But when I tried to transfer the balance, Tesco's systems are not recognising the card number. I keep getting the same spiel from Tesco's that the problem is because Lloyds cards are related to a duo account, which has 2 cards, a mastercard and an AMEX, and that they need the Amex number for it to work. The trouble is, that Lloyds have repeatedly confirmed that his card is a student card, nothing to do with the duo account, and that the mastercard number on his card is the only number available for the account. When I go back to Tesco, they keep asking me for the other number and saying he must have one. I have been going between both banks for a while now and both seem to be saying it's not their fault, and while they are trying to be helpful, they seem unable to give me any solution. In the meantime, I'm lumbered with the rising interest charges and am getting more and more frustrated.
I don't see how such a problem can happen, as it seems to me a system error either with Tesco or Lloyds, and surely if there is some problem with this whole duo account thing, I thought there must be hundreds of others with students cards with lloyds that have wanted to transfer their balance off it, so it just doesn't seem possible that Tesco wouldn't recognise the card. Especially since Tesco is run by RBS.
Has anyone else had problems transferring a balance off their Lloyds card to either Tesco, RBS or Natwest (since they are all the same company) or even to another bank? If anyone can help me I'd be so grateful.
The only options I can see are to either take out another credit card , which I'm worried will affect my credit score, having applied for 2 in the last month (this Tesco one and a Debenhams one I took out purely to get the discount in store). This seems risky as they may not even be able to do the transfer anyway. The other option is to transfer it to my Debenhams card as it has a £3000 limit and the balance is 0 on it, but I'm terrified now that the balance will get stuck on there with even higher interest rates if I can't then transfer it to Tesco (and this solution also means paying 2 lots of transfer fees).
Please please please help!! Thank you
Sarah

His student card (Visa?) might have been migrated to the new duo card (Mastercard).
Can you not get an assurance from Tesco that if they would send you a credit card cheque then you would get the same offer by paying LTSB off with one of those?0 -
Hi, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, Tesco don't do credit card checks, and Lloyds are still saying they can't do anything either, so I have given up and gone with the two transfer options, although it is costing an extra £17, that will be saved after 2 months interest savings. Debenhams have said they can do the transfer but only by cheque (they couldn't do it on their system either) so I've done that and I'm just hoping it works. (I confirmed beforehand that I will be able to transfer the Debenhams to Tesco and the card was accepted thankfully). Thanks for your help0
