Question for West Brom Star account holders

Having opened one of these over a month ago (with £1), the paperwork from West Brom BS finally arrived today. I had decided not to use the account because of the poor service opening it. However, concerns about Kaupthing mean I am rethinking this. I was wondering whether any West Brom star account holders have any feedback on managing the account. Does the service improve once the account is up and running?

Many thanks, and apologies if this goes back over ground that has already been covered!

why do you think there was poor service
why do you think they have stopped offering the product

depending upon your conclusions you may or may not choose to use the service

you could of course send then another £1 and see what happens

Opening my account took minutes, but then, I am fortunate enough to be close enough to be able to go into a branch.
Now that my house sale has completed, I popped in again the other day to deposit a lump, and counter service seems fine.

I expect they were inundated with applications after offering a table topping account. If I were running a building society and having to employ people to process applications, I might prioritise £1 cheques to the bottom of the pile.
(I'm not having a go at you, it's within their T&C) If they offered the rate in order to attract deposits, I expect they want as much as they can get as soon as possible.

I wonder if anyone who opened the account with a larger sum got a speedier response?

I opened the account with £1 because I did not want to send a larger cheque until I was confident about the quality of service I would receive. The issue I have now is whether it will take weeks for a cheque for several thousand pounds to be credited to my account. If this happened, it would wipe out the difference in interest between this account and others that pay slightly less.

I am not moaning about the service, I am asking a question about what I can expect now, and would be very grateful for any response from holders of this account.

Do you have to send a cheque? If you transfer the funds via BACS you don't have to wait for it to arrive by post and no one has to process it when it gets there. All you'd have to do then is wait for 3 or 4 working days and ring up, just to make sure transfer's gone ok.

It seems BACS transfers are only possible for standing orders, or at least that is what the literature I was sent implies. I would call and ask them, but everytime I have tried I have spent so long on hold that I have given up. Once again, any advice from people on here would be gratefully received.

All you need to do, via your bank account, is to make a payment to West Brom using their sort code 40-46-13 and their bank account number 91066277, using your account number as the reference. I have transferred money in like this and it has worked fine.
