I bought a large colander from a carboot and used that, but you could drill some holes into an old bucket if you have masses of soil to do.

  • I found a plastic crate type thing that I used for my sieving, I think that it had some veggies in for sale prior to the change of use.
  • Make a simple wooden frame on legs a bit bigger than your riddle and hang the riddle in it on 4 bits of stout "binder twine" saves holding the thing up and all have to do is shake it.

Oh BTW bread crates make good riddles too!

If you have a lot to do, it may be worth buying one ready made as they will last.

( I once decided that as my garden was full of stones, I would sieve most of them out.(approx 100x50ft) We then rotovated the whole garden and started from scratch. We pilled up the stones then got a builders skip - we filled it and it was all done by hand!!) Oh, when I say "we", that's the royal "we". Mr TM helped by...erm..... not doing it . the garden riddle is still going strong, but I won't be doing that in a hurry :D
