Canon ixus 75, very good camera and very simple to use, just make sure you read the manual makes it so much easier to use, around £140 but well worth paying for it. Has facial recognition technology which works very well. Red eye reduction is built into the camera and you can also remove any missed red eye after a photo is taken using the software you get with the camera. It has great video and sound recording quality as well, ideal for taking quick vids of a concert. I would highly recommend this camera, I have been looking at digital cameras for a long time and this one is one of the best compact digital cameras on the market at the moment. Currys is a good place to look for this one because my girlfriend works there as the camera expert at her store and she knows that they are getting stock in at the moment.

The Canon Ixus range are great quality and tiny cameras, and the batteries last a long time too.

Nikon D3 is ok to start with.
    Just kidding
For concert use a Nikon D3 with a f2.8 would be ok

Red eye isn't deemed a problem as it can be removed quite easily on the computer..

Concert photos is a hard one because you need good noise performance at higher ISO, something compacts are not great at but improving all the time! I would say this is more important than facial recognition or other unnecessary features..

ixus is a good point and shoot. canons have much better noise performance in low lights...but im afraid most camera wont be good at concert condition :p its going very cheap at the moment compared to its good quality and reviews

Something like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 is very small and slim and has image stabilization, we use ours to take low light and even night shots without flash. The stabilizer helps make many such shots come out sharp, not possible on our previous camera.due to hand shake

Get her the pink one she is highly unlikely to complain! Under £150 at many places.

    I want that camera.:D

I already own a Fujifilm Finepix S5700 but I'm an avid photographer so like to have a second, or even third camera for different things, depending on what I'm photographing. :)
