DIY Gazebo Building Advice Wanted

We want to build a multi sided (but not totally enclosed) wooden gazebo in the garden. Does anyone have any ideas where we can get step by step guidelines regarding the construction of the main frame and roof?
Also, do we need planning permission, and/or is there a height limit for this kind of garden building?

Not sure, but a tip - don't put it too close to the house as burglars can easily use a gazebo to gain access to the upper windows!

Thanks for the tip Chris - we have a place down the garden planned for the gazebo - maybe you are thinking more of a pagoda type construction for it to be close to the house?0
