How can I find out what I need to upgrade from 1GB memory to 2GB, btw I'm running Vista, and if the cost is not prohibitive I'd like it to run faster - its a Toshiba A200 - any help appreciated.

Easiest way is to go to the Crucial.com website - they have a tool that you can use to see what you have and what you need to upgrade (specifically if you have any free slots).
Then use that info to shop around for the cheapest price, or if you are risk-averse, just buy direct from Crucial who guarantee that it will work.
(Incidentally, what they supply sometimes ~doesn't~ work, but at least you get your money back!)0 -
After running the scanner they couldnt make a complete match, the scan is showing 2 x 512mb DDR PC2-5300 , I can only find 2700's or 3200's, any suggestions what to do next?
Thanks0 -
looks like 2 gig is the max for the notebook, ebay have lots, best to buy 2 gig matching if you can., around £20. (far cry from when i bought 8 meg @ over £200, and 750k for £90!)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Be warned that unless your laptop has a flap on the underneath maybe near the battery cover to open your laptop up and add/remove ram. Then you'll need to remove the keybaord and backplate, hard drive, fan and maybe cd/dvd drive to get to the motherboard to upgrade your ram. You'll need a small screw driver and to be good with your hands.0 -
Now I'm confused, I can find DDR2 - 5300 modules but not DDR 5300 (are they essentially the same), also 200 pin and 240 pin SODIMM, I assume its more likely to be 200 pin thats fitted now, will it be OK to fit 2 x 1GB DDR2 - 5300 modules non ECC , how will I know whether I will need 200 or 240 pin, sorry to be thick, but I dont want to get the wrong ones0
