Been unwell - Annual Travel Insurance advice/recommendations please

Hi,

I wonder if some of you on here can help.

I am looking for annual travel insurance that cover both holiday and business travel.

My Mum died 2 years ago and I have been off work for about 3 years now, (about to get back to work this Summer and go on my first holiday in years next month), suffering from stress and anxiety partly as a result of, well, seeing my Mum come to the end of her life.

My Doc says I am fine now but I do still take some medication.

I have a couple of asthma inhalers, which I have not taken for months but will I still carry with me as a kind of security blanket, and I am also on something called eflexor which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Gosh, that sounds complicated but it basically is used for anxiety and panic attacks when people are stressed out or anxious. I take a very very mild dose, only one tablet every day and sometimes only every other day, and my Doc is not even sure if such a small dose actually works or not. Again, it is probably a security blanket that I am just a tad reluctant to let go of at the moment.

Sorry to rant on about the above... but I am looking for annual travel insurance and not sure what is the best way to go about getting it. Some friends have told me that I will need to find a specialist insurer, others have said that the sort of stuff I take will not affect premiums, a few have said not to say anything (which I am not at all keen on when it comes to this kind of thing) so I am looking for advice on who to talk to about insurance.

If anyone on here can recommend good companies that they deal with or have any advice/recommendations I would be grateful.

Thanks.

  • Hi
sorry to hear about your mum and I hope things seem a bit easier for you now, a good holiday is probably just what you need.
Regarding the travel insurance PLEASE PLEASE ensure that when you purchase it you tell the person you speak to about all of your previous conditions no matter how trivial they may seem to you, you could even ask your GP to give you a list of the things he thinks you should mention to your insurance company, the reason I say this is because my father missed a few conditions of his medical declaration purely by accident and his insurance company refused to pay out full stop leaving him with a 10k bill after nearly dying in Spain a few weeks ago, I met a lot of people over there who hadnt declared anything and they all ended up having to pay hefty amounts of money to a private hospital. I would reccomend AXA

    Thanks scouselad,

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that he is well or at least on the mend. The 10K is an awful amount to have to find but at least you have your Dad. I am telling everyone I know to ensure they spend as much time with their parents as is possible, to hold them, hug them, kiss them and tell each other how much they mean to each other. Talk about the important things, the little things, any thing. I would give anything to have my Mum back alive and well as I would to have my Dad alive and well also.

    Tale care.

    T.

  • I agree with above - tell them but if you don't have a`condition ' that will affect you to the degree that you need to be ambulanced home for , you can EXCLUDE cover for it - but you still need to tell them.
I had cancer - long story, and excluded cover for it - after all -you're not going to decide suddenly that you need to have radiotherapy whilst on hols - are you?
I found some insurers still didn't want to know or wanted extra and so I didn't use `em.
    Hope all gets sorted.
  • Opps forgot to say - I'm with AXA aand have never had a problem - AND they were the ones who took me excluding the cover as I mentioned.
