travel insurance - infants

Options
Hi,

My partner and I have our own multitrip EU travel insurance through our A&L current accounts. We are planning a trip to France in the summer with our daughter who will be 23 months at the time of travel.
Do I need travel insurance for her and if so will I be able to get cover for her on her own? It costs £60 to add family cover to the A&L insurance which seems a bit steep for just her for one trip?

(also posted in the insurance section as wasn't sure which was the right place?)

  • you may be able to get the child put on the mothers policy foc, but you will need to check. i worked for Thomas Cook and the Axa policy included infants FOC, but each policy is different.

We had this problem last year, with a similarly aged child.

The year before, our daughter was added to the policy free of charge. Last year, they wanted around £50 to add her to the policy - effectively upgrading our policy to a family policy.

In the end, we took out a single trip family policy which covered the three of us for 26 days (no need for annual holiday cover as I was taking all my leave in one go!), which was much cheaper than adding her to the A&L policy, especially with Quidco cashback.

We thought about insuring her seperately, but were unable to find too many insurers that would insure a 20 month old by herself, and were also were advised on this message board that if we had to make a claim, it would be a lot more difficult to claim from two insurers. We were also unhappy with certain exclusions in the small print of the A&L policy, so got a policy that was more suitable for the type of holiday we were doing.

We will have the same problem again this summer, so any advice welcome!

Thanks for the replies, I'll check with A&L but think will have to get a family single trip cover as I'm sure it will be cheaper
