Missed Payment on Mint Credit Card

Morning all,

I am after a little bit of advice. I recently transferred a balance from my HSBC Credit Card to a new Mint Card to take advantage of their 0% deal. It all got accepted, I set up a direct debit instruction straight away to take minimum payment each month and received confirmation of this.

However today I have received a call from Mint saying that I have missed February's payment because the direct debit instruction was not put in place quick enough. This is obviously now going to affect my credit history, which prior to this is clear.

Can I argue this or do I have to settle for the industry screwing me again?

Thanks in advance

Dan

I would argue against this particularly as it was your first payment.Get it paid straight away and I doubt they will register it against you, there is probably adate after the due date at which they register against you.

I set up a direct debit instruction straight away to take minimum payment each month and received confirmation of this.

How long was there between the DD being set up and the due date?
  • Their saying that they sent out the 1st statement on the 10th but the direct debit was not confirmed until the 17th... however the due date was still around the 25th therefore I assumed because I had received confirmation before the due date payment would be taken??

I have phoned them now and set up a double payment which will be taken on the 5th of April. But my concern is their saying this will still show as a late payment? Is there nothing I can do??

Under the terms of the direct debit guarantee, the originator must give you 10 days notice of both the amount to be collected and the date it is to be collected on.

The mechanism for doing this is your monthly statement, and this is why you must pay by other means if your statement does not contain the message...

"Your payment will be collected by direct debit from your nominated account on xx/xx/xx"

    ...or words to that effect.
