Squeeky inkjet printer - WD40 or special oil?

It sounds squeeky as the print head goes back and forth and every 3 or 4 sheets - it comes up with a print head stuck warning which is v. annoying.
What shall I use?

  • WD40 will spray everything not good. It is not an oil and will disappear in time its a freeing agent. Use sparingly some light oil the the carriage rail or wipe clean first.

USE the WD40 with the nozzle straw. I bought WD40 instead of chaper brands and it did wonders for my car door locks and steering joint. Use the nozzle and dribble a small amount on to the carriage slider..

It is not necessary to spray WD40 everywhere. It can be dispensed into the cap and then applied sparingly exactly where required.

It is a lubricant and will not disappear into thin air.

WD40 will do no harm and should easily cure your squeak. More info here.

  • espresso, I assume the OP does not have WD40/may not have the red straw and being of the weaker sex might spray every thing in sight. Where as a clean hanky could wipe off any marks on the carriage rail. It also happens every 3 or 4 pages so I don't think its the carriage rail anyway unless its covered in ink. WD40 is an expensive buy and a damp cloth my be all thats required to wipe the rail down.

I had credited the OP with a bit more sense and assumed that they already had some WD40 but were asking did they need to use a 'special' oil for this job.

How sexist!! I DO have WD40 - I think I'll try it anyway - won't make it any worse.

I'll wipe the rail and then use WD40 - I'll spray it onto an old dish and then use one of my old make up brushes to brush it onto the rail??
