Yep, that's my problem too! Why can't ebay make it easier? Then we'd all list more stuff, and they'd make more money, the fools.Debt at highest Nov '06 £17,822.98

Great thread - this has given me a kick up the bum to get back into ebay - I am a huge fan but haven't sold anything on it for a wee while now. Going to have a clear out tomorrow and see what I can find to list - after all, one mans junk is another mans treasure!! I have £360~ on my Next account so going to aim to clear this with "free money" I make from Ebay... wish me luck!!0

There are cheap listing days every month - not always the same offers, sometimes 5p listing, sometimes half price listings, sometimes just on particular categories. They are usually on Thursdays, but sometimes they are 'weekend' events (usually these are specific category discount events Cars, or Home Improvements/Gardening or somesuch)
Cheap listing days are not always the best days to start an auction, the problem is that on that day the market gets flooded with listings, so the downsides are that your listings get lost in the masses, and there may be several people selling identical things to yours so the bidders have a wider choice and the prices are kept down - 10 people after one item is a bidding war and prices go up, 10 people after 10 identical items is one bid each auction and prices stay at opening price
If you are starting auctions at low opening prices anyway the cheap listing days actually save you very little in fees and can cost you in reduced selling pricesBetween Jun '08 and Jun '09 I made £5K matched betting
Between July '09 and Dec '10 I spent it all
So I'm back to do it again :rotfl:

I tend to start mine at 99p, find that if I go any lower, any profits get quickly eaten up by FVFs and paypal fee's... And with the DSRs, I don't like to slightly overcharge postage to make some of this back as need to keep a good rating.
For the first time in ages, I have no auctions on ebay, makes me sad cos I just love seeing the totals go up!0 -

Just a thought... when thinking about auctions for items selling at low prices are any of you using a Paypal "Micropayment" account ?
The normal Paypal fees are 3.4% + 20p, but Paypal also offer a Micropayment account of 5% + 5p
So if your item sells at £0.99 + £1.00 P&P in the normal account you would lose 27p in Paypal fees, in a micropayment account you pay only 14p... half price
For something selling at £2.99 plus £2.00 P&P the figures are 37p and 30p... only 7p perhaps, but those 7p's all add up over time
The break even point is approx £9.50 - so if almost everything you sell is below this price (inc P&P of course) it may be worth looking into a Micropayments account
There is hassle in that you need a second bank account to open the micropayments account if you have a normal paypal account as well, and it's worth having a second ebay ID as well so you can put high selling priced items on one ID and go through the normal paypal account and low priced items through a second ID and the micropayment account.
Paypal don't widely advertise the Micropayment account  but if you google "Paypal Micropayment" you will be able to investigate all the pro's and con'sBetween Jun '08 and Jun '09 I made £5K matched betting
