Help with Switch and Meter Query

I am just with Eon and on prepayment meters for both gas and electricity, they were in the house when I moved in many years ago. I want to change meters to normal and have been told that Eon charge £50. As I also was considering changing suppliers as they are a lot dearer, I find now I am struggling as a lot of energy providers dont accept prepayment meters and I cant afford £100 up fornt to switch my meters. Are any of the companies still providing free changeover.

Is there anyone who can help please?
  • I would go back to them and ask if they will change both meters over for free, or at least less for doing both. As you have been with them for a number of years, this should count in your favour. If they are adamant, then have a look at how much you will be saving by changing the meters over and see if you can justify the cost to yourself compared with the savings you will make.

One other option, if you have no joy with Eon, is to change to Ebico, who, I believe, charge the same for pre-payment as they do for standard gas and electricity. Then , after 12 months or so they will probably change the meters over free of charge.

    Good luck

Thanks Mike, I will try again regarding the £100 charge for change of meters then if no joy will try Ebico.
Hope Ebico's prices are more reasonable.

If you switch companies such as BG will change your meters free of charge a month after you have switched.

BG have too high a charge for me though, i would be worse off by £37 a year if I change. Free meter change though may make it good for 12 months.
Powergen said none of the companies would do the change for free.
