in Cutting tax
Daughters in a student house of 6 occupants, 5 of them are students but the 6th girl finished uni last June and got a full time well paid job in the summer. The landlady is aware of this and the way they did it is to have an agreement with only the 5 students on and exclude the full time worker.
Now a student who lived in the house last year and left last summer has informed the council tax office. Apparently he had to fill in some forms on which he was asked to list who was living at his previous address right now, he did so and included the girl with the full time job.
Although nothing has happened yet I am just concerned how this is going to affect my daughter who is a full time student nurse and does have a council tax certificate from the university. I'm not sure how it works when there is a full time worker in the house though. I'm hoping that she wont be liable to pay anything because there wouldn't be a council tax bill to pay at all if this girl didnt have a job as student houses are exempt.
I'm not sure if they have recieved some letter, prob from the council tax office as my daughter told me that the landlady has told them not to sign something as if they do they will be liable.
I wasn't happy about it in the first place but the girl who is working was already in the house with the landladys agreement before my daughter and her friend moved in. They were desperate for accomodation so had to move in there. I suppose the landlady didn't care so long as she got the rooms filled and this girl comes with her boyfriend who also pays for a separate room so the landlady knew she would lose 2 occupants if she wasn't in agreement.
Does anyone know what could happen with this?

From what I know, I would believe your daughter (and the other students) would not be liable for a penny.
However, the person who was working, should of been paying Coucil Tax at 75% e.g 25% discount for single person as their the only person who is liable for C.T. and only this person will be liable for the bill.0
