PGCE Interview

Evening, All.

This may appear a stupid question, but here goes...

I've got an interview for a PGCE course, and as part of the interview process I am required to comment on the recent developments in the teaching of my subject (English).

Ok, here comes the stupid part...

Are they wanting me to reflect on changes in course content, changes in the NC, teaching techniques?

Not quite sure what they're after. Obviously, a huge amount of info about this would be known within the profession only, with only huge fundamental changes making the papers.

So, any help would be good

Phil

Hey where are you applying? I just accepted onto PGCE Secondary English.

You will need to look at NC and reflect your own subject knowledge into the answers you give in regards to NC and also add in any obs that you have done, techniques/ styles that worked

    Do you have a presentation?

If you have a look at www.tes.co.uk, in particular the forum for prospective trainees, you will find a great deal of information and advice.
    Gone ... or have I?

    Here goes - my speciality!!!

Recent developments include new literacy agenda - find out what it is and look at the new National Curriculum for 2008 (http://curriculum.qca.org.uk/subjects/english/keystage3/index.aspx?return=http%3A//curriculum.qca.org.uk/subjects/index.aspx)

You will need to be aware of what is called Assessment for Learning (AFL), also Learning to Learn (L2L) and what is called the Every Child Matters (ECM)agenda - not strictly english related more whole school.

The NC has changed from 2008, so swot up on the developments in your subject.

As other posters have said, AFL and ECM are important - they won't expect you to be an authority but to know their purpose.

    Good luck!
