Hello you lovely Moneysavers
Basically I have been earning well above the £15k thereshold for the student loan repayments for about 1.5yrs now. I have tried contacting my payroll about making payments, who say conttact student loans co, who say contact my payroll... basically it seems no-one is bothered about it. (Apparently payroll didnt tick a box when filling in my tax form??? or something to that effect?)
Now I know at one point or another I am going to have to pay this back, but now I'm worried I may have to make backpayments, which is really cra*py and is quite worrying.
Has anyone else been in this situation? and
a) knows if backpayments will have to be made :embarasse
b) who I should contact
c) whendo they start coming after you (not that I want to avoid, but I was always under the impression that they would know what you were up to anyway)

Hey Sophie. I'm in exactly the same dilemma. I graduated in 2006, and to date, I haven't heard from the Student Loans Company, nor has any payments been deducted from my salary.
I don't think they would request backdated payments. I'm kind of hoping that they will begin deducting payments from April onwards (hopefully from the new tax year), so that they can calculate it properly whether or not I'm above the £15k threshold.0 -
I graduated last summer and was told in December that my repayments will begin in April 2008.0

Thanks for your replys everyone, much appreciated:starmod:
Hi chuckly:wave:- It wasnt a P46 it was my acceptance letter with my company and there was a box to tick to say if they should be deducting student loan repayments from my pay. (I had to also tick a box saying how much pension contributions I want to pay, which was set up with no problems)....
Amz84uk:wave:- I had hoped that they would start taking payments from me as soon as the next year starts... I think if they don't then I should just contact them and 'bite the bullet'
I have spoken to another girl who graduated the same year as me, and who joined our team about 7 months ago- but who has been with our company for over 1.5years as well... to date no-one has taken any student loan contributions. In fact all the graduates I have spoken to at out work place aren't repaying any of our loans. Seems that our payroll really doesnt like to liase with SLC! Oh and by the way I work for a global bluechip company- so i think that its actually very poor of our payroll to be messing up like this! (assuming its their fault- and as no1 i spoke to are making repayments after quite a long while it very well may be their fault!)
