New build. 6-8 weeks before Scottish power will give account number?

My husband and I have just moved into our new build house. The meter was installed by scottish power. When I phoned them to ask for our account number the girl I spoke to said it would take 6-8 weeks before they could assign us one. Does this sound right? Also would we have to wait for an account number before we can switch? At the moment we are on a standard tariff, something we'll need to change!

You could try your local distributor (see FAQs sticky) to see if they have your supply number (MPAN/MPR). You could then use this to switch.
It will take a while for the information to work it's way through to SP as there are a few compnaies involved, especially if you are on an independent network.0
