Thanks for the post, want to try some in sugar (Jamie style, lol) - but do they really need that whole jar for the one pod?

they are often cheap and buy one get one free in julian graves, seems really cheap and across the road from my work place. i have often thought about getting them when they are on offer but have no idea what to do with them!!

They are if you dont have a good market that does them.

They are £1.99 for 1 in a jar (Swartz) or £2.99 for two in a tube (Cooks Mate or something) at Sainsburys. They are similarly priced at Morrisons too. Talk about inflated prices, wish I had a market like yours nearby.

What really blew me away in Sainsburys though was a Swartz black pepper jar with integrated mill in the lid at £4.98!!! What a complete rip off. Lidl used to do the same thing for about 80p until a few months ago. Must ask them about that. I try and completely avoid using the big supermarkets now for this reason.

    Home made vanilla ice cream.

A 300ml carton of double cream and a 400ml tin of condensed milk.

Put the cream into a bowl. Whip until it resembles clotted cream. Gently fold in the condensed milk.

Cut a vanilla pod open lengthways and scrape out seeds. Gently boil these and the pod in 100ml of milk.

Leave to cool. Remove the pod.

Gently fold in the milk and seeds.

Put the contents into a shallow dish. Put the dish in the freezer.

Every hour or so, move the frozen bits at the edge of the dish into the middle. After about 4 hours, it should all be frozen.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
