New boiler prices Q

It is an old argument, and no I haven't been on Corgi training recently I've been registered ten years (due for another refresher soon though  ), but I've been round the argument enough times to feel pretty sure I'm correct on this one, but I could of course be wrong. I have been on the C & G Energy Efficiency though back in June, which is where the building regs requirement was clarified, i.e. the fact that you can get around the OFTEC registration requirement by having every job inspected by building control as you can with electrics, but you definitely cannot with gas.
The ultimate test would of course be in the courts.
Alot of these regulations do need more clarity. For example, did you know that on boiler replacements the customer can sign a disclaimer saying that they don't want TRVs fitted? I didn't until a couple of weeks ago, but phone Corgi and apparently that's what they'll tell you.0 -
Can i just say, its not obvious I don't know anything and i wasn't the thread starter. I just wanted to clarify the legal situation, and see exactly what work had to be done by who. We have a lot going on in our house over the next few month and i didn't want any suprises i hadn't allowed for at the last minute.
A little beside the point but the guy in question isn't my husband at all but a friend who so far as i know did used to be Corgi regisetered but hasn't kept it up recently as he now doesn't work the hours to make it cost effective (has his daughter full time now)
No work will be done until i have spoken to a local Corgi registered plumber or two, but have already spoken to one up in London where my husband works and he said that they have to make the final connection to the boiler and check the system off to be legally happy. And, yes i agree there may well be quite a few not happy to do this if they don't know the person doing the work, which is quite understandable, but that wasn't my question. I was checking the situation on here so i could get a few more points of view, as as you say they are my kids, and contrary to your obvious belief after reading a two line post of mine, i am not stupid.

I was responding to two posts. I was responding to your question regarding non Corgi (if I had a penny for every 'used to be Corgi but hasn't kept it up' I wouldn't have to work) people doing the work and then getting it 'signed-off'. The rest was directed towards the OP, not you. I don't really understand why you had to then point out to me that your kids are, well, your kids! I was highlighting to the OP that often people discount how many people they're putting in danger when they try to cut corners with gas safety. The fact that they are your kids doesn't give you any more right to discount their safety by having a boiler fitted on the cheap than it would by letting them sit unstrapped in your car. I didn't say or imply that you were stupid. The board guide's response, and the fact that they thanked me for my post, makes it pretty clear this isn't about opinions, it's about the law and safety.
It is not legal for it to be done the way you suggested. They are still then working on the gas appliance, by installing it and the flue. The old one will also have to be disconnected. It exasperates me that people go around the houses trying to find a way around this when the point is it's there to protect their safety, no matter how badly many of us may think the system is run.
