We recently had new key electric meter to replace the old card type. We have now received a letter saying that we owe e.on £250 because they didn't update the pricing on the old meter and that they are taking £5 extra from our meter for 52 weeks to repay it. Am i right in thinking that i can avoid paying this money as it wasn't our fault they never bothered to ensure we were paying the correct amount. If so how would i go about it.
Thanks.

Bradders, there's a lot of this going around - it's why all suppliers are now changing to key meters.
Legally they can charge you the difference as the meter is a way of paying. It's possible they came round, but couldn't get in.
Morally it is a different story and 3 other suppliers have chosen to waive this difference (for now).
You could ask them to reduce how much you pay each week so that you have as long to pay it back as it took to build up, but then you are stuck with them and the meter for longer.0 -
They also said in the letter that the reason it wasn't updated was because they meter reader couldn't carry the extra equipment or someting like that.0
