Why don't the police know better...part 2.

I have been caught going 36mph in 30mph by a stupid yellow box that everyone slows down for and says cheese...then speed up again once they've passed the danger of a fine..

I accept that I was speeding and caught.

What I don't accept is that the stupid police force have sent me the details of how I can pay.

YOUR FINE COULD BE £1000 and 6 PENALTY POINTS...or give us £60 by post and we'll sort it for you now.

So I send my £60 by cheque.

However, after the warning on the form of not to send cash because it could get stolen...there are little squares where you can fill in your credit card number, your start date, your end date, your issue number and your full name + address and signature too for good measure.

Surely the police of all people know that this information is far more valuable to a postal thief than £60 cash. How stupid is this?

I was desperate to put a post-it on my reply highlighting their madness, but felt my fine could be raised. However, once the matter is fully dealt with, I feel their stupidity needs to be pointed out to them. oooh, gonna have lots of fun with that!

perfectly valid point, especially with the amount of credit card and identity fraud nowdays.

i also have to say you were unlucky to get done going 6 mph over a 30 limit, the speed cameras normally dont flash people unless they are going 38 miles per hour in a 30. although as you say, you were speeding just like everyone else does ( me included)

are you sure it was you driving on that day and that time, there have been many genuine cases where a car is used by 2 people and neither can remember which one was driving, only one person can be prosectuted for it but they must get the correct person. however this is done on appeal and as we all know an appeal can go either way, ie.. no fine and no points or...agggrrrrrr 6 points and large fine and court costs.

speed cameras are purely there nowdays to make councils money, the police dont get money from them and the original idea of making accident spots safer has long gone thnaks to this cash cow.

Definitely me driving...and couldn't appeal knowing full well I was lying...mind you my 1 year old son was in the car too. Maybe I could claim he was wrestling me for the wheel?!

I agree about the fact that cameras are a good money generator...too much of a good thing for the council to give them up now. But then again, if we all stuck to the law, they wouldn't get their cash.

it is in theory worked on 5mph plus 10% benefit, well it is in the area where i work.

the worst part is i find that i am paying more attention to the speedo than the road when going past a speed camera. that is far more dangerous than going a couple miles an hour over the limit.

of course the speed camera needs to be regularly calibrated, otherwise it gives or can give an inaccurate reading. you could ask the local police authority to tell you when it was calibrated prior to your ticket, if they cant tell you when it was calibrated ( unless one of the new auto calibrated ones) then you may have some room for appeal.
