Is it simply of making sure the address is confirmed to protect myself?

Advice appreciated.

Cheers.

    You can't confirm Polish addresses.

If the item is of any significant value, I would tell them you're unable to sell to them, and be ready to block their bids if necessary.

A cheaper item would be a different matter.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Value £110 so pretty high value. Will knock them back, don't want to risk it. Learned another thing about PayPal.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Hi

A better idea would be to tell them you can't accept paypal from unconfirmed addresses, and get them to pay directly into your bank account (with all fees paid from their end, obviously). You can despatch in the knowledge that the money is yours and you've paid no bloomin' paypal fees either.

A lot of the Polish use moneybookers.com to transfer money around the place, and it is one of the "approved" ebay electronic money transfer services.
I've received a few payments in the past from it, and as far as I remember, they have a different method of guaranteeing payments which was more secure than paypal.

I've not had any problems with Polish buyers, either based there or now in the UK, so I would not be too quick to dismiss and block them until you have sounded out other payment methods.

  • Thanks guys just had a quick look at the thread before posting that I was not going to send it.

I've used an element from both baffcat & stevew8975. adding also that a secure delivery method would also be a requirement.

    lets see what happens....

    Cheers!

I just answer that I don't post outside England, because of the customs problem. That usually puts 'em off!

  • I had this today also even though I do state I only accept UK bids!
If they are really insistent I tell them that if they bid and win I cannot send the item signed for/insured (as I do for all my items) as and quite truthfully Royal Mail cannot track items once they have left the UK then the onus of risk is on them.
I have sent stuff abroad and only once did I get scammed (for £100) but at least this way I think its both polite and diplomatic.

Don't take paypal, ask for a bank transfer.

Use www.interparcel.com for cheap but reliable shipping.

Anyone in the Eurozone including Poles can send you an international bank transfer for free (or low cost) which will usually cost you nothing* to receive on the UK end. (See EU/EEA directive 2560/2001 or ask your bank for details.)

A couple of points to keep in mind. 1) the transfer must be in Euros (so convert the £ total), 2) you must use your BIC + IBAN details (which are to be found on your bank statement) 3) with Shared costs selected by the sender. Most such transfers take between a few hours to several business days to be credited to your UK bank account, usually without deduction of fees on the UK end.

*NatWest/RBS charge a £1 fee for a notification letter (which you can opt out of).
