Hi
i have a nissan almera tino 1.8se extra(2004)with 24500 miles

took it for its second mot yesterday and passed without ANY work needed:D mot wasn't due till 26/03:D

i only do 6000 or less per year (1 or 2 trips for a long weekend )as the cost of petrol going up and up i think may be i should change the car to save money?

i get nearly 300 per full tank about 50litre

i thinking of toyota yaris 1.3 (1-2 years old new model)

also seen nissan note 1.4 se in the showroom yesterday 5500 miles for 8000 on 07 reg

any recommendations welcome

can people in the know tell me if its worth changing my car or shall i just stick with it?

many thanks

I make that 20 full tanks of fuel a year. Assuming you saved £20 per 300 miles, based on a mileage of 6000 p.a. that's only £400 per year. I imagine you'd spend more than that swapping the car.

You need to work out the folowing equations:

Current car cost per annum =

Depreciation over 1 year (rate of depreciation lessens as vehicle gets older) + annual insurance cost (dictated by insurance group, value of car, driving record) + fuel costs (annual mileage divided by fuel economy x cost per litre of fuel) + financing costs (cost of interest on loan to pay for vehicle) + annual service cost (how many services are required + routine items such as tyres, brakes, MOT etc - more work is required as gets older maybe but garage costs get lower proportionally) + breakdown cover

New car cost per annum =

Same calculation as above with depreciation costs and finance costs likely to be higher. Insurance could lower with smaller newer car. Servicing and running costs should be less and it will have a warranty. Fuel costs depends on fuel used and economy. Breakdown cover may be included for 1 - 3 years

This will tell you the relative costs which you must them weigh up against the peice of mind a new car gives you and the feeling of driving something newer and maybe different, and maybe more suitable e.g. smaller etc.

There is no easy answer, everyone will tell you something different. This method gives you some facts to balance against wants/desires.

    thank you

i think trade in for mine would probably just over 4k

i was thinking part ex and pay £1000-£1500 for a smaller car (yaris) but keep the the car for as long as its road worthy

so in the long run it would save me money

6000 miles i do 40% is motoway miles

we are family of three car is mostly used for work and shopping etc

we do 1 or sometimes 2 long trips say 200-300 miles for long weekends away
