HBOS credit card closures offered me a deal on my card

I rang HBOS and tried to shut my credit card with them now I have cleared the balance.
They have offred me 3% balance transfer fee and 6 months interest free, then it reverts back to 22% then.

Should i take this and switch the balance of my MBNA card for 6 months then se if I can get a better deal from them again in 6 months?
or should I try and get a better deal at the minute? do you think I would get a better deal from HBOS in 6 months?
or should I just keep my MBNA card empty and try and get a 0% deal from them in 6 months?

Hope that is clear....

  • Thats a rubbish deal.

Its the same as paying 6% for 1yrs 0%.

Only take 6 month 0% deals if there is a zero fee.

Otherwise close the card and get another from somewhere else e.g halifax for 15 months 0%

I might struggle to get another card though I have been refused a fewin the past.

Do you think they would negotiate?

If you've not already, check your credit file to see if there are unused cards you don't know about. And check you've done all the steps on Martin's article about "improving your credit rating".

One refusal doesn't mean you won't be accepted by a company - depends who you apply to and what the circumstances were at the time of your previous applications and any new applications. If you've now cleared all your cards and you've only got the one HBOS card, then you're in a fairly good position I'd say.

Read this article on negotating a better deal with HBOS: http://www.makesenseofmoney.co.uk/a_extend.html

If they can't come up with a better offer once you're armed with some research then cancel for sure.
