Abbey are still not closing my account!!! Arrgh! We filled in the forms again (2 weeks ago now) and the counter staff (we had to deal with it at the counter because they're short staffed and there was no one else there again!!) wouldn't give us any receipt for the forms, or a photocopy or anything. So again we have no proof that we've filled the forms in and when we call abbey they say they can't deal with it but they'll get someone to call us back, which never happens!
I don't even know who we can complain to!
I've filled in some benefit forms this week (my employer couldn't take me back part time after maternity- long story) and i've told them that the abbey account is in the process of being closed and they want the letter that abbey send out to say its closed as proof!!!0 -
Well I don't want to worry you but.........we're on our third attempt to close our account! :rotfl:
December, February - visited the branch, filled out all the forms - and then we got a statement earlier in the week with a £25 unauthorised o/d charge - even though there was nothing in the account - and no o/d facility because we'd had to cancel it to close the account! :rotfl:
Apparently they will send the paperwork to head office again and it should be closed - why do I not believe them?
I really sympathise with you MummyHol!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Hi there,
Abbey have just reviewed their policy on the closure of current accounts and these can now be closed IN BRANCH - unless there are pending charges ( they could do what I do for customers and diarise it to close the account once charges are off/refunded).
Many staff may not be aware of this as they might not have checked their notifications - if they question it, ask them to check "bookstore" and or their branch employee page Archive section!!!
It should take approximately 15 minutes to close the average account - less if the is no balance requiring a calculation of interest.
Hope this helps you :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks Sagaris and chongthecat.
Just received a statement saying they're charging us £15 because the couldn't take out a direct debit! Argh! We've cancelled all the direct debits about 6 times now!!! They've done this every month so far!
I'm going down there right now!!0
