We need a new gas boiler and two extra radiators. We live in Cardiff and would be grateful for any info on good honest hard working reliable corgi registered firms ? Also any ideas what is a reasonable quote for this work ? Many Thanks !

I got a new boiler about a year and a half ago - I got various quotes which varied a LOT! I went for one which was £1200 or £1300 which was one of the cheapest - but we got a top quality boiler, the fitter was really helpful and I've had no problems with it since then.

We also got a quote for about two and a half grand from British Gas. The fitter I used in the end helped us to take it apart and see that we were being charged for stuff we just didn't need - and when we put his points to BG they admitted it was true. Amongst other things BG wanted to 'upgrade' our gas pipe, just in case we needed to add more radiators in the future (how many can you fit into a two bed terrace?) and they only fit large boilers, which are more expensive and was way above the capacity I needed for my little house.

Anyway, rant about BG over... the fitter I used is Mr Illahi - 029 20195384. Corgi registration number 199602. My only criticism is that they didn't tidy up very well after themselves, but this was only a minor point!

Can you tell me where this engineer is based pleased? I am in the London area. Ta!
  • I put out a request last week as I need a new boiler and system fitting.
Canucklehead kindly gave me some information, including this site information

    To find a CORGI/check qualifications visit www.trustcorgi.com

Just put in your postcode and it gives you all the local current corgi registered people
I think I am going slightly mad.....
  • Ditto the above posts.Quoted mega bucks by british gas and so bought our own boiler and all the fitting bits from B&Q during a 20% off sale for £500(these are usually on bank holiday weekend and hols so there should be more coming up)but had trouble getting someone to fit it.It cost us a whopping £800 to get it fitted by local fitter(4 hours work, good line of work to get into it seems) so the total was £1300.
Thats the kind of price you are looking at.
