This may seem a daft question if your knowledgable about cars and car buying but as I am not here goes!

I am thinking about buying a car to replace my kia sedona as I work 40 miles from home and the fuel cost of running this car is about £70 per week!!!!!!

I want to know where I can get the best information about which cars are most economical to both buy and run?

Consider getting your current car serviced first, especially if it hasn't been done in over 12 months - also consider changing driving style to get the most MPG, there are a few posts on this dotted around.

But your fuel efficiency only seems disasterous if most of the driving is motorway, anf the only mileage is to and from work.

Have a look on www.parkers.co.uk for a whole raft of info regarding performance, economy, runnign costs etc. They even have owner reviews of the cars.

Just to add the cost of buying a new car can cancel out any savings you'll make in lower fuel costs.

Thanks for your comments so far.
I agree the car could probaby do with being serviced and my driving style is probably partly to blame!!!!!
My problem is the car is jointly owned by myself and my ex-husband. As part of the settlement he wants me to buy his share of the car - what I am trying to do is work out if this the most economical option or whether I should sell this car pay him off and put my share towards a more economical car.

  • If you want a cheaper car then sell the Sedona and spend £1000 on any number of decent second hand cars, like this:

You'd be surprised. My 4 litre TVR could do 30mpg on the motorway.
