No Electricity Supplier....advice?

Options
hello there, im looking for a bit of advice..

Im a student living in a shared house with one other person, we moved in july first 2007. For whatever reason we never got around to sorting out an electricity supplier for the house, and as time passed we never did. All other utilities are sorted and pain for. We've never had any contact from a company offering to become our electricity supplier...

quite a long times passsed now and really its about time we sorted it out. I guess having not too much disposable money has lead to us putting it off, and il be the first to admit that its pretty counter productive...

so do we just ring up whoever we decide (probably npower) and tell them exactly the above? also if this bill is too much to pay all at once can it be paid in installments?

thanks for any advice...

    .

After you have identified who the supplier is - see post #2 above - you will have to pay them what you owe before you can "decide" who you want to be your supplier.

They will normally let you pay back what you owe over the time it has taken for the debt to build up. The best way is to arrange a direct debit which covers your usage and an element toward your debit balance.

You do have a potential problem in that (if you are like most students!) you probably didn't note your electricity meter reading when you moved in. If that is so you might well find yourself paying for the previous occupants electricity!!
  • I have been here in your situation and you need to find out quick. I moved into a house and gave them my prev address which was the shared house I lived in. I recieved a bill for £712.00!!! And I lived in the house for 4 months!!!!!!!!

They attached me to the bill because I admitted living there and the occupants before didn't-it took me over a year to sort it out with British Gas and I was close to fighting them through court-I was a 19year old, single female and I had no spare money and was living hand to mouth when they sent me the bill. I was paying my rent and giving over my share of the bill money and then I gets a bill like that! It was ridiculous-so dont hesitate in finding out before this happenes to you!

Honesty sometimes is NOT the best policy...but i'm proud of my honesty and have my intergrity to uphold!
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!
  • ah okay, im pretty sure the gas people said that the previous occupants had given them a final reading so i guess i can only hope that they gave one to the electricity supplier too...assuming that would save us from paying for electricity we have not used?

Perhaps you will learn from this and provide your own readings in the future.
