No claims for named drivers?

I am sure that I am not alone in this.
I had previously had my own car insurance, earning 3 years worth of no claims.
After a year out of the uk durring which I stopped my insurance. I have spent 4 years as anamed driver on my parents insurance.
I am now looking to get my own insurance again. Is there any way that I can use my time as a named driver to earn a no claims bonus.
Also is there any way that I can get a copy of my previous no claims bonus from about 5 years ago?

No - no claims bonus in your on name is only valid for 2 years from one insurer to another - if you dont use it you lose it.
Some insurers are prepared to go back 3 years, where they were the last insurer - but none further than that.
Depending who your parents insurers are they might allow the time you have been named on their policy into consideration - but take into consideration any bonus they allow might not be transferable to another insurer from renewal (e you would have to stay with them)
Aside of that ask about intro discounts - some do a discount for over 25's that give 2 years instead of 1 at renewal0 -
As Steve has already advised, most insurers will only go back two years with no claims discount, Norwich Union go back 3 years. You will not be able to get a copy of no claims discount from 5 years ago.
The best you can hope for is an introductory discount. However, if your parents are currently insured with the Direct Line Group of companies, then they will take named drivers into consideration.Independent Insurance Advice0
