Hotpoint Washing machine - playing up?

i have a hotpoint aquarius extra 1000 spin washing machine - model number WMA40 - approx 2.5 years old - heavily used
over the last week it is behaving rather oddly....
we only use a general wash cycle for all our washing....
recently it goes all the way through the cycle, then appears to stop. with several lights lit.
by stopping it and switching it to spin only, it then spins and finishes - ie, the end light comes on (all others go off)
when it spins, it sounds like there is money/metal zip knocking against the glass door......
so is it two problems.... are they connected...
can anyone reccommend a website to help with self diagnosis?
