Reclaiming money from Scottish Power
I'm feeling inspired to get some of my money back and was directed towards this site by a friend.
About three years ago Scottish Power started writing me letters saying I owed them about £340 for electricity owed at a student house I once lived in.
From Sept 2002 to August 2003 - the back story being that my name was on the account at my student house, we had a gas and electric meter and paid via paypoint on a key. When we left uni, I didn't take my name off the account and the next tennents in the house didn't sign up for a new account - they just continued using the key and card we left them. The account was changed to Northern Electric at some point and Northern Electric started collecting money on the key. Scottish Power however still had the account in my name and was wanting to know why the meter was running and they were not being paid.
I argued with them saying that I was not living in the
house during the period of Sept 2003 to August 2004 (when the charges were dated), they said that unless I could provide a contract showing an alternative address, which I could not because I was back living with my parents, that they would have to charge me. I argued and eventually I spoke to a gentleman who said that Northern Electric had the money and Scottish Power would chase them up. A year later, Scottish Power started sending me notices saying they were going to start legal proceedings, as I was only working part time and still at uni, I paid the bill of £340 and just left it at that.
Does any one think there will be any way of reclaiming my money? If you need any other information, please let me know! Thank you!

Not sure how much luck you'll have, and the longer you leave it the harder it will become.
Do you have anything that proves you moved out of the student house/in with your parents? Send them a copy with a request for a refund - especially as you were ona pay as you go meter.
