Old Share Certificates

Must admit I was having a clearout over the weekend and stumbled across some old share certifcates that I dabbled in 2000. I'm guessing that they are pretty worthless and struggling to find info about most of them (tangible info anyway). Most of these companies seem to have been through a restructure or name change at some point in their lifetimes whereby 50000 of your shares get converted to 1

Anyway shares are with Emerald Energy, Pacific Media and British Biotech (maybe Vernalis now?). Can anyone shed any light on these - I've got an inclination they may only be good for the shredder

    Pacific Media

Snap .... you reminded me I have some of those, from way back. Can't remember what I bought them as .. certainly wasn't a media company. Had a look last night .. but didn't get too far.

So ... do you want the good news or the bad??? The good news is that they were trading at over £12 in 2003! The bad news is that they dropped like a stone (probably a monumental mason's when I bought!) through 2006 - to 15p! Which is what they appear to be sitting at today. The worse news is that they appear to have totally 'flatlined' .... if it was an ECG you would pronounce the patient as dead! In fact I can't trace any (share) activity since Dec 06.

Can't work out (weeded the file) what I paid for them .... but 15p would probably give me a profit! If it were obtainable.

(Move the period at the bottom of the left graph to '5 years')

From this 'LSE' listing .... the last trades appear to be Dec 06, despite the company still appears to be 'active' on websites :

  • Well here is a reply I got from the registrar.....not good news!

It was approved at the EGM held on 31st July 2006 that every existing 40,000 shares would be consolidated into 25 new shares.

If you held less than 40,000 shares, your holding was disenfranchised.

So does anyone have any better news about the others? :)

  • Vernalis (BB) are virtually worthless as well, as they had a share consolidation I think as well.

Emerald Energy... Good News trading at 265p,

Bad News it appears that in about 2003 there was a 200 for 1 consolidation so again if you held less than 200 shares you would have no "new shares" and thereby it would be worthless.

However with all certs check directly with the registrars involved to see.
    Nothing to see here
