Good card for young student

Hi everyone, i'm looking for a credit card for one reason really, i shop quite a bit on ebay and with a debit card the only payment available on paypal is an e-cheque which takes about 3-4 days to clear. With a credit card the payment clears instantly which means i get my eagerly awaited purchase a few days earlier.
I don't think i'm eligible for the Amex cashback card, as i'm a 19yo first year university student. Obviously i could just sign up to the card i could have with my student account (Halifax), but thought i might as well try to reap any benefits i could.
