in Cutting tax
Hi,
I am starting a bookkeeping course to assist in managing my one house rental which is soon to be three. When, if ever, can I put the cost of the course as an expense on my self assessment?

When attending a course to a) gain a qualification to get a job, or b) gain a qualification to better yourself, it is non allowable as an expense for tax purposes.
The only time it is allowable ifs if you have to take to course to keep an existing qualification that is required as part of your employment/trade.
Therefore in your case the course feee is a non allowable expense.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Yes, your fist aid course should be included in your accounts.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

You might find that the course is eligible for full fee remission if it is a full level 2 or full level 30

Hi,
Thanks for the posts. The course is L2 leading to L3 and intend to do both. How does that make a difference on whether I can claim or not? Thanks for the advice so far.0 -

It makes no difference to whether or not you can claim - if it qualifies you would pay no fees TO claim0 -
I think XRS was suggesting that you might get full fee remission (via the college or other training provider) rather than by deducting it from your profits.
People without full L2 qualifications (eg 5 GCSEs at C or above or a full L2 NVQ) may be eligible for free training. There are various possibilities round government funding and what courses and levels are eligible.0
