Phi

Hello,

I purchased my first home approx a year ago and have just been reviewing my insurances.

I have life insurance already which would pay off the mortgage should the worst happen.

I have decided that income protection is important for me, as i want security in respect of all bills will be paid if i am ill for any length of time. Hence i have chosen PHI. Permanent Health Insurance.

On the application form it asks

"are you: Married / Single / Co-Habiting /Civil partnership"

My current position is that I live with someone, but we have no financial ties at all. The house, bills and mortgage are in my name only. I recieve some contribtions for bills etc.

I am confused as to whether i need to put down Single or Co-Habiting?? what would you recommend?? We are not married or in any kind of official relationship.

Thanks

I think Co-habiting is the appropriate description.

co-habiting is sharing a bed (in the bluntest way of putting it!). Otherwise its single.

I wanted to check what the definition was, as i have heard the slightest inaccuracy on an application form can invalidate any policy. Want everything above board!

Just out of interest though, do you think that if you ticked "single" and you should have put "co-habiting" down would make any difference in the event of a claim? or vice versa

The FOS have a standard in place for that sort of thing now and its not really an issue unless it is deliberate non disclosure and relevant to the claim area.

None at all unless you are in a same sex relationship potentially and you also ticked "are you in a high risk groups category".
