I've heard about Wick, but not heard iykwim (livinginhope). Not been here long enough to know the surrounding areas but I like Rustington too.
I think it's just a case of keeping your options open and exploring the local areas before you make any big decisions. Look at it this way, you'll have lots of nice days at the seaside whilst you're researching !:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
Rent first, then you will get a better feel for the area.0

Hi there, I live in Brighton. None of the places you named are Brighton!!! Littlehampton is 45mins by train! They're all nice places, but if you want to live in one of Brighton's further out suburbs, then try Hollingbury, Hollingdean or the East side of Lewes Road.
I would avoid Moulsecoomb and Whitehawk.
You're looking at Worthing - it's very nice there, as is Hove for bringing up kids, but Hove's probably too expensive. House prices are ridiculous here, and competition for schools is high.
You can get 3 bed houses in Hollingbury in Brighton which is where I'd look if I were you - they have some good schools there, too.
I hope that helps a little.

Littlehampton is 45mins by train!
But only 20 mins by car,(providing you don't get caught in traffic at the Hillbarn roundabout
) never could work out why it takes so long on the train

Fair point....I don't travel by car so it just wouldn't occur to me to look at it car wise!

LA to Brighton in 20 minutes by car. Which route is this??????????
It will take at least 20 minutes to find a car parking space in Brighton!0 -
The good thing about Brighton is there is a large percentage of buy to let properties with huge numbers bought in the hysteria of the last couple of years. As the buy to let sector collapses there should be be some good deals next year.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

I agree, those areas you are considering are quite a way from Brighton. We lived in central Brighton up until last year and moved out to Saltdean which is still Brighton (BN2 postcode) to get more for our money. Brighton is expensive and in the nice areas you will struggle to get 3 bedrooms for less than £350k.
You could consider Saltdean which is only 4 miles to Brighton, still have the benefits of the beach/sea views. Or further along the coast, Newhaven does have a lot of regeneration happening and has direct bus and train links to Brighton.
Further afield Eastbourne and Hastings are cheaper than Brighton and both on the coast. In the other direction, Worthing could be a possibility. I'd give Shoreham a miss now, as its got very expensive.0 -
you will be hard pressed to buy a 3 bed for £220K in Brighton at the moment. you could buy my 2 bed semi for £225 and then put extension on. I am serious! You will get house for that price in grotty areas, as already mentioned on here but i wouldn't if i were you. Shoreham is deffo worth a try as maybe parts of Southwick (especially the older bit south of A27). there is Portslade too which is just next to Hove. How about Burgess Hill? Not bad prices for mid Sussex. Cheaper than Haywards Heath. Then there is Saltdean and Peacehaven - they are bit cheaper than Brighton. Newhaven is always meant to be taking off but just not sure when. it hasn't happened yet but i have been away a year so it might have changes.
Good luck. and let me know if you wanna buy my house.
