As promised here is the end result.

Dom has worked wonders and got me a full refund plus 2 free webcams!!!

What a fantastic result - I can't thank him enough.

The programme should go to air in June.

Excellent, what a result. I guess DABS still stick by what they stated about warranty but offered you a one off gesture of good will.

    Worked out for you though!

This annoys me a bit actually. If something is outside its warranty, its outside its warranty, simple as!!

Fair play to you on the end result I suppose, but IMO its things like this that keep prices up for the rest of us. Fair enough if it had been inside the warranty period, but when it ends it ends...thats the nature of elecrical goods.

Sorry Mike you are wrong (and it's legal fact not my opinion).
A warranty has nothing to do with statutory rights (UK law).

Under UK law something has to be "fit for purpose" and last a "reasonable" time.
Now what is "reasonable" is not specified as clearly you'd expect a different timescales depending on what the product actually is.

If it's faulty then you have entitlements under UK law and it's not in anyway related to warranty that a manufacturer or retailer migh offer.

I don't think in general that the very small number of faulty items is having a massive upward pressure on prices.
A lot of electrical goods have gone down in price recently due to being manufactured in places like China so there has been massive downward movements in prices.
